Description

1938-S Texas Commemorative Half Dollar 50c, PCGS MS68 (CAC)

The 1938-S Texas Centennial half dollar is usually available in lower grades, but this high-end Superb Gem example is a condition rarity and among the finest examples certified. The coin is essentially pristine and well struck, with outstanding originality. Ivory-white interiors cede to russet border toning. Eye appeal is excellent. To add to its desirability, the coin is also approved by CAC.

The Texas 1934-1938 PDS commemorative set consist of a 13-piece collection that can prove quite a challenge to complete in high grade. even though it is doable with persistence and sufficient funds. Only the initial 1934 issue is a high-net-distribution issue, usually chosen for type purposes. The 1938-S is the final San Francisco issue in the Texas commemorative half series. The Western branch mint struck 5,006 examples (including assay coins) to be issued in three-coin sets alongside an example each of the Philadelphia and Denver counterparts, but 1,192 pieces were melted, leaving a distribution of only 3,814 coins.
