A rare opportunity for the advanced collector of New Orleans gold or a Liberty double eagle collector. The 1854-O is a legendary rarity in the Coronet double eagle series. It is the second rarest O-mint twenty and is generally considered the third rarest in the series, trailing only the 1861 Paquet and the 1856-O. It is estimated that only 35-40 1854-O double eagles are known in all grades with about fifteen in About Uncirculated and none in Uncirculated. This piece shows modest friction over the highpoints, as one would expect. The surfaces are bright green-gold with a slight accent of reddish patina on each side. This is the highest graded CAC coin, which add to its desirability.
